How To Remove Shortcut Virus From Your PC/USB Storage



Shortcut Virus which is a new modern virus, it automatically comes in your PC/USB/SD card and convert all your folders or files into a shortcut. Sometime this virus also make your folders or files invisible. This Shortcut virus problem is not removable by some anti-virus programs, when you scan your Shortcut virus infected storage with anti-virus program they give “No threat detected” buy when you check your PC/USB/SD it still there.

What are you going to do if you didn’t know how to remove this virus? Most of people they are going to format the infected storage, so if you are helplessness to format your storage then don’t do this a gain, because it not the good solution.


How you get affect by this shortcut virus? This virus is cause from internet, USB, software etc. Sometime when you connect your pen drive to other computer for exchanging data and you don’t know that computer affected by shortcut virus, so when you connect those pen drive to your computer it automatically infect your computer also.



How to remove shortcut virus from your USB, Pen drive, SD card? For remove this shortcut virus it actually not really hard, as I try to researched I have found the ways to fix this problem is by using CMD.

Remove shortcut virus by using CMD. This way really work and easy, first you Open Command prompt as Administrator (For open CMD as Administrator, go to  Search for “CMD” and then Right click to CMD and Select “Run as Administrator” or right click over Start button and select “command prompt (Admin) “).

After you run CMD as Administrator it should appear like this picture

Next step you need to connect you USB storage, Pen drive, SD card to your computer. Now go to your CMD and type: attrib -h -r -s /s /d H:\*.*  (H is Your USB drive letter) you can check your drive letter from My computer and then type it. For ex, if your drive letter is “I” then the command is like: ” attrib -h -r -s /s /d I:\*.* “).

Wait until the command process completes. Now all your Shortcut files will convert to normal files. So delete unknown files from your storage. If possible after you remove your shortcut virus from your storage, you should copy all your data from your storage to your computer, and format your USB storage. Then copy your data to your USB storage back.


To protect your computer I recommend you to use anti-virus software. There are a lot but now I using MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials). MSE protect your computer against virus very well and also free for installation.
